Hey, Baltimore parents! Congrats on the new addition to your family! As a newborn photographer based here in Baltimore, I really love capturing those precious first moments in the comfort of your home, especially if you have had a c-section! There’s something magical about documenting your baby’s early days in a space that’s all your own—especially when that space is filled with love, warmth, and your personal style.

But let’s be real: newborn photo sessions can feel like so overwhelming, especially for first-time parents. You want those timeless, cozy shots without the stress. Well, I’m here to share five tips to help make your in-home newborn session a breeze and make sure you get the most stunning photos so you can remember this special time forever.
1. Time It Right – Schedule Around Baby’s Sweet Spot
Newborns are happiest (and sleepiest) during their first three weeks of life, which is why I recommend scheduling your session within that window for the best results. In these early days, babies are more likely to be calm, relaxed, and easy to pose.
The key to a smooth session is timing. I recommend scheduling your shoot when your little one is well-rested and fed. The early morning hours are typically the best for newborns, but if that’s not your family’s rhythm, don’t worry! Just make sure baby isn’t hungry or fussy when we start.
In Baltimore, the light in the mornings is especially beautiful—so that’s a bonus if we shoot early!
2. Prep Your Space for Natural Light
As a Baltimore newborn photographer, when i come to your home, i always prioritize using natural light for a soft, dreamy feel in your photos. This is one of the perks of an in-home session: you get to capture those intimate moments in a familiar, cozy space, and I get to work with the beautiful light that your home offers.
Before I arrive, open your blinds and let as much natural light in as possible, especially in the rooms where we’ll be shooting. Living rooms, nurseries, or even bedrooms with large windows work great. If you're unsure which rooms will work best, I can help guide you once I’m there!
And if you're shooting in the winter (hello, Baltimore winters), remember that natural light can be a bit limited, but I’ll bring my own equipment to make sure your photos still have that magic!

3. Keep Baby Warm and Comfortable Baltimore In- Home Newborn Photography
Keeping baby cozy is key to a smooth session. Newborns are sensitive to temperature, so I’ll often recommend that you warm up the room a bit before I arrive. A comfortable, warm space makes it easier for your little one to relax, especially if we’re doing close-up shots or shots where baby is undressed or wrapped.
Dress your baby in loose, soft clothing to avoid any marks on their skin—think something easy to remove, like a button-up onesie or a soft knit outfit. And don’t worry about getting fancy—my focus is on the natural moments, so baby’s comfort is #1. I do have a lot of outfits and wraps in my studio that i can bring to your home if you are not sure what to put baby in.
During Baltimore’s chilly seasons, I love using cozy wraps and blankets to keep your little one warm and snug while I capture their sweet moments.
4. Include Personal Touches to Make It Unique
In-home sessions are the perfect opportunity to personalize your newborn photos. Whether it's a handmade blanket, a stuffed animal, or a family heirloom, incorporating meaningful items into the session can make the photos even more special.
Maybe you’ve got a Baltimore-themed nursery (hello, Charm City vibes!), a family gift, or a favorite piece of art in your home—bring those little touches to make your photos more meaningful. These items add personal flair and help tell your family’s unique story. I love working with items that bring out the love and personality in your home.

5. Relax, Go with the Flow, and Enjoy the Process
The best Baltimore In- Home Newborn Photography happen when you let go of perfection and just enjoy the moment. Babies can be unpredictable (and that’s part of the fun!), so it’s important to stay flexible and go with the flow. Whether it’s a diaper change, a feeding break, or a few extra snuggles, trust me, I’ve got it covered. I’ll guide you through each step, but the most beautiful moments often come when you’re just being yourselves—so don’t stress about “posing.” Whether we’re capturing you gazing at your newborn or a sweet moment of baby yawning, those natural moments will be the ones you treasure most.
Bonus Tip: Hire a Local Photographer Who Specializes in Newborns I get it—there are tons of photographers out there, but finding someone who specializes in newborns is key. Newborn photography requires a unique skill set—not just to create beautiful images, but to ensure that baby is safe, comfortable, and in good hands throughout the session.
As a Baltimore-based newborn photographer, I’ve been photographing newborns for over a decade! perfecting the craft of handling and posing newborns safely while making sure your photos reflect your family’s true vibe is what I am about! Whether it’s the soft light in your home or the sweet bond between you and your baby, I’ll make sure we capture it all in a way that feels natural and timeless.
In-home newborn sessions are one of my favorite ways to capture those first precious days with your baby. By prepping your space, staying relaxed, and incorporating personal touches, you’ll create photos that reflect the love and warmth of your family. And if you’re in the Baltimore area, I’d be honored to help you preserve these beautiful memories!
